Relity

Going viral

How long a claim was moving before the press had it. Three timestamps: the first post, the first major account to carry it, and the first two independent newsrooms.

Nothing has completed all three steps yet.

A rise is only shown once a major account has carried it. Before that, publishing it would make Relity the thing that spread it.

1 query x 10 posts = 10 posts a cycle, 15 cycles a day (one every 96 min) = 150 post reads a day

How Relity measures this

Every tool in this market scores a post against how that account usually performs — a ratio against its own median. That finds a small source behaving unusually. It says nothing about what happens next.

Relity measures two clocks on the same claim, which is the part nobody else has: how fast it is moving on social, and how fast independent newsrooms are adopting it. Both are recorded every two minutes, from before the story existed.

Against the account, not the world

A post is an outlier when it runs several times that account’s own median — measured as engagement per hour, which the comparable tools do not do. A 900-follower account running eight times its normal is invisible to anything ranking by raw size.

No baseline, no claim

An account we have not watched long enough has no normal, so no multiple can be computed against it. We say so rather than guessing. It is also why this cannot be reconstructed later: an account’s ordinary days are gone unless somebody wrote them down.

The gap between the two clocks

Loud online with no newsroom moving is its own finding: either it is about to break, or the newsrooms have looked and passed. Both are worth knowing, and neither is visible to anyone measuring one curve.

Counted, not modelled

Each crossing carries what comparable curves actually did — how often stories on this shape reached two independent newsrooms. That is a tally from our own archive, not a prediction, and it improves every day on its own.

Nothing is published until an account with a million or more followers has carried the claim. Before that, Relity would be the thing spreading it. The account that posted first is never named — below that line it is a private individual, and what we measure is the timestamp, not the person. The full method →
